Reading Hidden Things: Poetry, Biography, Retranslation

Gregory Jusdanis (Ohio State University) and Karen Van Dyck (Columbia University)
Faculty House and Online

In this seminar, Karen Van Dyck opens her undergraduate course, Retranslation: Worlding Cavafy, to a wider audience and welcomes acclaimed Cavafy biographer professor Gregory Jusdanis. In conversation with students, they will engage in a close reading of Cavafy’s “Hidden Things” and use Jusdanis’ and Peter Jeffreys’ Constantine Cavafy: A New Biography (2025) as a point of departure for exploring what it means to read poetry through the lens of biography.

This event is co-sponsored by the SNFPHI.

Seating is limited. Registration closes at NOON on Monday, October 12th. If you do not have a Columbia ID, you will receive a QR code to access the campus.
