Dimitris Antoniou will be presenting his recent monograph Why Not Build the Mosque?: Islam, Political Cost, and the Practice of Democracy in Greece at the Heyman Center on Thursday, April 3rd at 6:15 PM. 

Why Not Build the Mosque? explores the Greek state’s two-century-long attempt to build a central mosque, culminating in the project’s realization during the recent economic crisis. 

Dimitris Antoniou will be joined by Naor H. Ben-Yehoyada (Associate Professor of Anthropology, Columbia University), Mark Mazower (Professor of History, Columbia University), Neni Panourgiá (Affiliated Faculty, Program in Hellenic Studies and Associate Professor, Prison Education Program), and the historian, İpek Kocaömer Yosmaoğlu.
